About the Role
Kingston Biotechnology Research is looking for a Bioinformatics Engineer to build and optimize the computational infrastructure powering our genomics and proteomics research. You will work at the intersection of software engineering and biological science, developing tools that enable researchers to extract insights from complex datasets.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for genomic and proteomic analysis at scale
- Develop custom analysis tools and software to support ongoing research programs
- Optimize computational workflows for performance, reproducibility, and scalability
- Collaborate with wet lab teams to translate experimental designs into computational analyses
- Manage and optimize cloud computing infrastructure (AWS, GCP) for data storage and processing
- Implement best practices for code versioning, testing, documentation, and CI/CD
- Evaluate and integrate new bioinformatics tools and databases into the research workflow
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python and R for data analysis and pipeline development
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for bioinformatics workloads
- Hands-on experience with genomic data analysis (variant calling, RNA-seq, whole genome sequencing)
- Proficiency with workflow managers (Nextflow, Snakemake, or similar)
- Strong software engineering practices including version control (Git), testing, and documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Singularity) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with proteomics data analysis tools and formats
- Experience building web-based visualization dashboards for scientific data
